I am writing on behalf of the Zero Discrimination Organization Istanbul / Turkey.
We are writing a proposal on Social and Economic Empowerment of Roma Women and we look for relevant partners from the Western Balkans .
The deadline for this project is on the 31st of May.

Here below please find some general information on the framework in which the project will be developed.

Project Coordinator: Zero Discrimination Organization (Istanbul – Turkey)

Budget: Max. 200.000 Euro

Duration: Max. 48 months

Title: Empowerment of the Social Status of Roma Women

Main goal: Raising Awareness about Social Discrimination and Gender issues facing Roma Community

Objectives: The specific objectives of this Project are to:

• Organize targeted training programmes to promote social statues of Roma women within the municipal districts (Sarıgöl, Ataşehir, Kuştepe, Çatalca) where Roma communities are mostly populated in Istanbul
• Enhance cooperation with Ministry of Education to increase girls schooling for Roma community in targeted areas
• Enhance cooperation with Employment Counseling Associations to increase women’s employment in targeted areas
• Specify influential factors of negative stereotyping about Roma people and organize conferences, workshops and cultural activities to contribute to abolish those negative stereotypes
• Share best practices about combating social discrimination against Rome people particularly Rome women and raise awareness among decision making authorities via lobbying
Proposed Activities: The proposed activities of this Project are to;

• Organize targeted education programme such as vocational trainings, literacy courses for adults, courses on women’s rights, health, raising awareness to combat violence against women etc.
• Organize trainings to offer legal and psychological counseling services for combating violence against women, children and discrimination;
• Conduct sociological research about living conditions of Roma women and need assessment to empower them
• Create a compelling-cross social media campaign to raise awareness about various issue related to empowerment of Rome women via Internet and brochures
• Ally with some responsive commentators who focuses on topics such as women’s empowerment, discrimination and human rights in order to raise the issue and contribute media agenda-setting
• Support actions to provide elderly care which contains medical care, psychological counseling and supply of basic needs
• Arrange interactive cultural activities (theatre, cinema, museums visits) aiming at reaching Rome women and children to increase their knowledge about their own cities and city life in general to improve their access to social and cultural life, to help to abolish stereotypes and raise self-awareness about their opportunities to empower themselves
• Promote voluntary services and active citizenship among university students by articulating voluntarism to various project activities such as helping primary school students for their school tasks, improving reading activities among children and young students.
• Lobbying and advocacy activities performing at state and local level in order to address reasons of literacy challenges and low schooling rates among girls, to increase schooling rates of girls, to apply positive discrimination for women to create pressure groups for legal reforms
• Organize conferences and symposiums, conduct research and produce publications about gender and social development in order to help to abolish stereotyping and discrimination
• Organize workshops, forums and round table talks among decision makers in Turkey in order to raise awareness and contribute agenda-setting
• Lobbying activities performing at parliamentary level
• Organize an election to choose women representatives for each local district and to give extensive training for elected young women leaders on capacity-building, human rights, leadership, local and CSO governance, employment and best practices to combat discrimination across EU ; Support informative actions to increase women participation and involvement in City Councils.
• Organize technical visits and study tours to CSOs in partner and other EU member countries in order to exchange best practices and experiences among CSO volunteers and professional staff
• Organize mutual field trips with state authorities in partner countries to observe on-going projects and develop fitting remarks
• Organize meetings and visits to universities and research centers among national and local representatives, social workers, social development experts in order to examine the conducted academic researches
• Provide expert advice for identifying needs assessments improving dialogue with minorities and vulnerable groups
• Organize and implement awareness-raising events (seminars, workshops, conferences) on discrimination
• Support defining of benchmarking and performance indicators for integration of minorities and vulnerable groups
• Develop information, networking and knowledge provision via website, database and publication
• Setting up of structures to monitor policy and measures, survey, research, documentation
• Publish national reports for each partner country to exchange best practices (short results for 2 pages for each country)
• Establish sustainable manufacturing workshops to exercise handcraft and launch a new brand for products which are created in those workshops
• Develop production of a video documentary about women’s empowerment and gender equality and support the promotion of the documentary via web sites and social media channels
• Support actions to form pressure groups to draft a master plan at national level for the integration and empowerment of the Roma community
• Provide psychological counseling and rehabilitation services for ex-prisoners and prisoners’ families
• Organize an International Women Conference to reinforce and develop regional and international women network among women CSOs and other stakeholders
